What to enter
| Input | Meaning and units |
|---|---|
| Selected-day active users (users) | Enter a whole count in users; keep the reporting population consistent. |
| Same-month active users (users) | Enter a whole count in users; keep the reporting population consistent. |
Understanding your result
Compare matched populations and similar weekdays. The ratio describes frequency relative to the monthly audience, not customer retention or satisfaction.
Common mistakes
- Do not sum daily unique users to obtain monthly unique users.
- Do not silently compare selected-day DAU with average DAU.
Check your calculation
- Use the worked example as a known reference case, then change one input at a time and check the direction and units of the response.
Choose a consistent measurement basis
Specify the selected day, calendar or rolling month, timezone and qualifying activity. A selected-day DAU is not the average DAU over the month.
A second independently worked case
No active users on the selected day gives a selected-day ratio of zero. Inputs: Selected-day active users: 0 users; Same-month active users: 100 users. Results: Selected-day DAU/MAU: 0 %.
Precision and output units
Displayed results: Selected-day DAU/MAU in %, rounded to 2 decimal places. Display rounding does not establish the precision of the original measurements or estimates. A small positive rate can round to 0.00%; inspect the underlying counts before treating displayed zero as an absence of events.

Common uses

- Compare DAU MAU Stickiness across scenarios under matching definitions.
How it works
Divide selected-day unique active users by same-month unique active users. Both sets must use the same activity event, identity rules and population; daily users should be a subset of the monthly set.
Worked example
2,000 ÷ 10,000 × 100 = 20%. Enter selected-day active users 2000 users, same-month active users 10000 users. The independently worked result is selected-day dau/mau 20 %. Compare this example with your reporting definitions before substituting your own figures.
FAQ
Is a selected-day ratio the same as average DAU divided by MAU?
No. A particular day may differ from the average because of weekdays, releases, seasonality or measurement incidents. This tool uses the selected-day input stated in the form.
Is there one good DAU/MAU target for every product?
No. A product intended for monthly tasks and a daily communication product have different usage patterns. Compare a consistent activity definition within an appropriate product context.
