What to enter
| Input | Meaning and units |
|---|---|
| Ad spend (currency) | Enter ad spend in currency. Use the measurement basis described below. |
| Recorded clicks (clicks) | Enter a whole count in clicks; keep the reporting population consistent. |
Understanding your result
Use CPC to compare acquisition input cost, then inspect conversion rate and value before changing bids.
Common mistakes
- Maximum CPC and average CPC are different quantities.
- An inexpensive click can still be a poor-quality acquisition.
Check your calculation
- Use the worked example as a known reference case, then change one input at a time and check the direction and units of the response.
Choose a consistent measurement basis
Match cost and clicks to the same report window and currency. State whether platform credits, taxes and agency fees are included in the chosen cost basis.
A second independently worked case
No allocated spend over ten clicks gives zero allocated cost per click. Inputs: Ad spend: 0 currency; Recorded clicks: 10 clicks. Results: Average cost per click: 0 currency/click.
Precision and output units
Displayed results: Average cost per click in currency/click, rounded to 2 decimal places. Display rounding does not establish the precision of the original measurements or estimates.

Common uses
- How much did each recorded ad click cost on average
- Compare Average CPC across scenarios under matching definitions.
How it works
Divide allocated ad spend by recorded clicks. This is a realized average; it does not reconstruct the auction price of an individual click or a maximum bid.
Worked example
600 ÷ 300 = 2 currency units per click. Enter ad spend 600 currency, recorded clicks 300 clicks. The independently worked result is average cost per click 2 currency/click. Compare this example with your reporting definitions before substituting your own figures.
FAQ
How should several campaign CPCs be combined?
Add campaign costs and clicks separately, then divide total cost by total clicks. Averaging the CPC values equally gives each campaign equal weight even if their click volumes differ.
Why is zero clicks rejected?
With no clicks, a cost-per-click denominator is zero. Report the spend and zero-click outcome directly rather than inventing a finite CPC.
