What to enter
| Input | Meaning and units |
|---|---|
| Pressure (Pa) | Enter pressure in Pa; use the same basis as the other measurements. |
| Force (N) | Enter force in N; use the same basis as the other measurements. |
Understanding your result
Read Area (m²) in the units and model stated on this page. The formula area = force ÷ pressure defines the relationship; measurement accuracy and model applicability are separate from numerical precision.
Common mistakes
- Mixing input units or changing the physical meaning of a variable without changing the model.
Check your calculation
- Use the worked example as a known reference case, then change one input at a time and check the direction and units of the response.

What is the area given the pressure and force?
Calculate area from pressure and force. Enter the two known values in the stated SI units and see the formula and result.
Common uses
- Find the unknown area from two known measurements.
- Check unit consistency before using pressure, force & area.
How it works
Start with pressure = force ÷ area. Rearrange the relationship to area = force ÷ pressure. Enter pressure in Pa and force in N; the result is area in m². Values must be nonnegative and any denominator must be positive. The model assumes consistent quantities and units. Use force normal to the contact area. Force divided by total area gives mean pressure; local pressure can vary when the force is not uniformly distributed.
Worked example
Pressure: 2 Pa; Force: 10 N gives area: 5 m².
